After winning eight Texas HS Football state championships, one Lone Star coach is calling it quits.

Aledo legend Tim Buchanan announced his retirement on Friday after 25 years with the Bearcats program.

Coach Buchanan’s overall record isn’t indicative of his success, hanging up his whistle with a lifetime mark of 281-583. However, in championship matches, coach Buchanan was perfect, going 8-0. Last December, he led the school to a state record 11th state title — the most for any school in any classification in the Lone Star State. In some shape or form, coach Buchanan was responsible for all of them, winning eight as the HC and three as the AD. Even legendary Alabama coach Nick Saban was on hand to shake his hand and wish him well.

Twenty of coach Buchanan’s squads garnered 10-plus victories; two teams went undefeated. While coach Buchanan briefly served as athletic director, coach Steve Wood took over, winning three state titles. Now the school’s AD, Wood also announced his retirement.

Aledo has promoted offensive coordinator Roy Jones as the program’s new head coach. He was around during coach Saban’s visit and showed the Crimson Tide champ around the Aledo campus.
