The 2023 Texas High Football regular season is officially over. Playoffs are around the corner before they start I want to break down the top 10 high school teams in the Houston area. In this two-part article, I will be breaking down the top 5 ranked teams in Houston.
5. Lamar Texans (10-0)
The Lamar Texans have come a long way from previous seasons. Lamar in the past has been an average and decent team, but this season they went undefeated and beat The Woodlands Highlanders a team always highly ranked. Lamar’s standout athletes are running back #4 Justin Howard and wide receiver #5 Tristen Brown. Justin’s stats this season are 48 carries, 705 rushing yards, and 16 rushing touchdowns. Tristen’s stats this season are 39 receptions, 806 receiving yards, and 10 receiving touchdowns. With these two weapons on offense having the option to run and pass to essential playmakers is a great reason for their top 5 ranking. Round 1 playoffs The Lamar Texans will play against The Jersey Village Falcons (8-2).
4. Dickinson Gators (9-1)
The Dickinson Gators are making a serious run this year for the state. Ever since their 1st-week loss to The Atascocita Eagles, they have been unstoppable crushing every opponent by a large margin except for Ridge Point. Every game Dickinson has won they did with over 30 points and rarely allow even two touchdowns per game. Dickinson’s main contributor is quarterback #2 John Solomon he is a reliable passer, but he loves to run the ball most of Dickinson’s rushing yards come from John. Round 1 playoffs The Dickinson Gators will play against The Pearland Oilers (8-2).
3. Atascocita Eagles (8-2)
The Atascocita Eagles have been dominating all season long they were ranked #1 majority of the season. After their win against The Katy Tigers Atascocita has gained more recognition and respect. Atascocita has an all-star offense wide receivers #2 Jelani Watkins, #5 Kyran Lee, and #12 Cameron Glenn running backs #6 Tory Blaylock and #14 Cardae Mack are all essentially powerful playmakers. Quarterback #1 Zion Brown does a great job leading all these playmakers distributing the ball to them and even rushing the ball in himself. Round 1 playoffs The Atascocita Eagles will play against The Dobie Longhorns (8-2).
2. Summer Creek Bulldogs (10-1)
Ever since I started scouting The Summer Creek Bulldogs have always been a dark house in high school football. They have always been a scrappy team all of the game I have seen them play was competitive and went down to the wire. This season Summer Creek has risen to #2 in the city this is thanks to beating top teams like; C.E King, Klein Collins, and The Atascocita Eagles and their close game against the #1 team North Shore. Running back #25 Lloyd Avant is a powerful running back he has an explosive run and tears down anyone in his path on defense one of the toughest linebackers in the state #6 Xavier Atkins has a solid build and quick footwork and will lay out anyone in his sights. The Summer Creek Bulldogs will advance to Round 2 in the playoffs after their victory over The Pasadena Memorial Mavericks (5-6).
1. North Shore Mustangs (11-0)
What can I say about The North Shore Mustangs that hasn’t already been said? North Shore have consistently been top dawgs for years they are always in the championships and always have the best talent in the state. Quarterback #9 Kaleb Bailey ever since his injury last season he bounced back to lead his team to an undefeated season currently. Kaleb’s most reliable targets are wide receivers #4 Terrence Guillory and #2 Christopher Barnes they both have a great deal of speed and quickness to get off any coverage to receive the pass. On defense, they have one of the best juniors in the nation cornerback #6 Devin Sanchez. Devin has an aggressive play style he matches the opposing wide receiver’s speed and rarely lets any passes come through. The North Shore Mustangs will advance to Round 2 in the playoffs after their victory over The Deer Park (9-2).
