Cypress Springs Remains Undefeated, Defeating Cy-Ranch 31-16

On Friday night, September 20th, 2024, a fierce battle unfolded as the Cypress Ranch Mustangs (2-1) faced the Cypress Springs Panthers (3-0) at Cy-Fair FCU Stadium. Both teams are strong contenders in District 16-6A, and they showcased their talent during this exciting matchup.

1st Half

Cypress Springs received the first kickoff, gaining possession of the ball. Cypress Ranch had a promising drive, but the Panther defense held firm, forcing the Mustangs to punt. The offense for Cypress Springs struggled against Cypress Ranch’s defense, resulting in a turnover on downs. The Mustangs managed to clutch up with a big defensive stop, but their offense struggled to find the end zone. They did, however, score a field goal, making it 3-0. The Panthers had another chance on offense, but Cypress Ranch intercepted a pass. Just before the first quarter ended, the Mustangs fumbled the ball, which was recovered by Cypress Springs.

In the second quarter, Cypress Springs finally found their rhythm, as running back Paris Melvin Jr. scored a 6-yard rushing touchdown to take the lead. Cypress Ranch continued to face difficulties breaking through the Panthers’ defense and was forced to punt again. The Panthers struggled to move the ball but managed to set up for a 41-yard field goal. Cypress Ranch, determined not to fall too far behind, settled for another field goal, bringing the score to 10-6 at halftime, with Cypress Springs in the lead.

2nd Half

Cypress Ranch received the kickoff to start the second half but was quickly forced to punt due to Cypress Springs’ defense. After a long drive, Paris Melvin Jr. found the end zone again, scoring on a 24-yard touchdown run. Cypress Ranch finally capitalized on a gap in the Panthers’ defense, with running back Peyton Thomas breaking free for a 75-yard rushing touchdown.

The Panthers were relentless, with quarterback Jared Hagger throwing a long pass to Melvin Jr., which placed them on the 1-yard line. Melvin Jr. punched in his third touchdown of the night shortly after. As the third quarter ended, Cypress Springs led 24-13. The fourth quarter saw Cypress Ranch kick their third field goal, while Melvin Jr. scored again on a screen pass, resulting in a final score of 31-16 and keeping Cypress Springs undefeated.

Next Week

Next week, both Cypress Springs and Cypress Ranch will enjoy a bye week, allowing much-needed rest for both teams as they prepare for their upcoming matchups.
