Area Round 5A Team of the Week: Reedy Lions
5A Team of the Week: Reedy Lions
Trailing Georgetown 45-7 in the second quarter of its area round matchup, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before Reedy’s 2024 season would come to an end.
What ensued was a comeback for the ages.
The Lions responded with 42 unanswered points over the next two and a half quarters, clinching a 49-45 win that will go down in school history.
“I think for us, it was a great lesson in momentum,” Reedy head coach Chad Cole said. “We can do anything when we believe and use momentum to our advantage. On the flip side, when have to find ways to minimize the momentum being used against us. The first half, we could do no right, and they no wrong.”
Explosive players were a key part of the Lion comeback. Quarterback Jake Ferner threw for 291 yards and three scores. Mason Easley turned his eight catches into 184 yards and two touchdowns, while Cade Hebel racked up 106 yards and three touchdowns on just six touches.
AGTG! Came back from a 45-7 deficit and won 49-45! Moving onto round 3.

Triston Airy also had a touchdown run, while Darren Nickerson had Reedy’s other touchdown catch.
Now, the Lions will look to ride this wave of momentum into the regional semifinals.
“It certainly gave us an re-charge, keeping your season alive is a big deal,” Cole said. “It was a heck of a lot of fun.”
Things won’t be getting any easier for Reedy in the regional semifinals. The Lions have a date with perennial power Highland Park this Friday at the Ford Center in Frisco.
