West Plains football is entering a new chapter, and it comes after one of the most impressive starts for a new program in recent memory.
After helping launch the Wolves and quickly turning them into a winner, Adam Cummings is stepping away from the sidelines to take on a larger role within Canyon ISD as Executive Director of Schools and Leadership.
Cummings was the first head coach in program history and built the program from the ground up starting in 2022. That first season showed flashes, but it didn’t take long for things to take off. By 2023, West Plains rolled to a 13-2 record and a deep playoff run that put the program on the map.
The success didn’t slow down. The Wolves followed that up with an 11-4 season in 2024, reaching the state semifinals, then went 12-2 in 2025 with another strong playoff push that ended in the state quarterfinals.
In total, West Plains went 42-13 under Cummings and made the playoffs all four seasons, quickly becoming one of the more respected programs in Class 4A.
Now, the focus shifts to what’s next. Cummings steps into a district-wide leadership role, while West Plains begins the search for just the second head coach in program history, taking over a program that’s already built to win.
