MacArthur Key Players and Storylines

Aldine MacArthur hasn’t won more than two games in a season since 2019, but head coach Blake Ware believes a breakthrough could be coming in year three. The Generals return 13 starters and have established a culture needed to make that jump in the win column..

The offense has to increase the 15 points per game it averaged last year, but it has the personnel to take that step forward. Quarterback Lance Nero is ready to step in behind center again after starting as a sophomore back in 2024. He’ll be able to lean on a duo of talented junior running backs in Korey Fisher (363 rushing yards and two touchdowns) and Trinidad Espinoza (389 rushing yards and three touchdowns). In the passing attack, senior receiver Amari Cano (176 receiving yards) will shoulder much more responsibility this year after MacArthur’s top three receivers all graduated.

Defensively, the Generals will lean on their front seven. They’ll go from one Raygoza to another as junior defensive end Victor Raygoza (23 tackles, 6.5 TFLs) is ready to step up following the graduation of last year’s leading tackler Xavier Raygoza. Senior defensive end Jalen McFarland will be another threat off the edge along with senior outside linebacker Josh Morales (46 tackles, nine TFLs).

The Generals did lose several key players to graduation, but they have a junior class with a lot of talent coming through the ranks. Ware hopes that his third year will be the charm as the Generals look to take another step towards playoff contention.
