FORT WORTH — In what was an emotional night for the Boswell seniors, the Pioneers set to square off with the defending state champion Aledo Bearcats for the District 6-5A Championship. Both teams came into this game with unblemished records but only Aledo would finish 10-0 after a stellar display from both teams in a game that ended 35-26.

“We didn’t give up,” defensive tackle James Williams said after the win. “We showed that we want to keep competing and we got the win.”

Boswell got off to a fast start as Jahmad Lumar took the kickoff from the goal line all the way to the Aledo 32 yard line. However, Conner Carrell’s field goal on fourth down was wide and they failed to score any points. Aledo would quickly respond driving 80 yards capped off by a 28 yard keeper by Jake Bishop to put the Bearcats up 7-0. After trading punts, Boswell drove to the Aledo 3 yard line but the Bearcat defense held again and Conner Carrell kicked the field goal to get Boswell on the board 7-3.

Halfway through the second quarter, after both teams turned it over twice, Brayden Thomas hit Breshun Berry deep for the 62 yard touchdown to put Boswell up 10-7. Boswell put another one on the board before halftime. Thomas hit Jakoby Satroplus for a 33 yard touchdown but the extra point fell short and the score remained 16-7. But before time expired, Jake Bishop threw to Beau Mask for a 51 yard touchdown to make it 16-14.

The Bearcats fielded the kick off and got o the 33 yard line but a late hit moved the ball to the 48. They drove down the field quickly setting up a 2 yard touchdown run from Aaron Hale to put Aledo up 21-16. Boswell was forced to punt and Aledo wasted no time taking advantage as Jake Bishop hit Beau Mask again for 52 yards and the Aledo touchdown to make it 28-16.

Boswell then drove the ball to the Bearcat 9 but couldn’t convert on third down and Conner Carrell kicked the field goal to make it 28-19. Boswell got on the board again on a Brayden Thomas pass to Breshun Berry for the touchdown to get back to within two at 28-26.

Aledo then ran 18 plays over 8 minutes capped off by a 5 yard run by Jake Bishop to make it a two possession game at 35-26 with 1:41 left in the game. Boswell then failed to convert on fourth down giving the ball to Aledo who ran out the clock.

“Games like this don’t really get tiring,” Beau Mask said after a big night receiving, “We just keep telling ourselves to keep grinding keep pounding and we’ll come out with the victory.”

Aledo finishes 10-0 and faces Wichita Falls Rider on Thursday at Saginaw High School. Boswell finishes their year 9-1 and will face Denison at a time and place to be determined.
