Aledo was able to run over a one-loss Grapevine team as they defeated them 51-7 in the Class 5A DII Regional Playoff game in Saginaw’s Rough Rider Stadium.
Donnie Evans opened up the ball game with a 75-yard TD to put Aledo on the scoreboard within the first 30 seconds of the game. The defense would then add on to the lead following a 32 yard scoop and score as Grapevine fumbled on its opening drive.
The scores on offense and defense for Aledo would be a tale of what was to come for Grapevine the rest of the night. Despite a touchdown pass from Grapevine quarterback Alan Bowman to receiver Zach Carnes to put the score at 17-7, nothing much would go in Grapevine’s favor. Donnie Evans would once again find the end zone, this time on an 86-yard touchdown reception to have Aledo heading into the half with a 24-7 advantage.
Aledo would dominate the rest of the game as they entered the fourth quarter with a comfortable 41-7 lead. A 25-yard touchdown run by Jase McClellan and an 81-yard touchdown reception by Logan Bridges helped Aledo assert their will on the Grapevine defense.
Aledo finished with 613 total yards on offense and 315 coming from the running game. Donnie Evans led all rushers with 128 yards and a touchdown. Michael Jordon had 96 yards and one touchdown and Jase McClellan finished with 59 yards and a score.
Aledo will face Abilene Cooper in a Regional Semifinal game next week.
