SAGINAW, Texas-It’s playoff time yet again and Aledo is looking for another State Championship. Head Coach Steve Wood is not celebrating just yet though. In last week’s 35-26 win over Saginaw Boswell, Aledo went into halftime trailing 16-14 and lost Oklahoma bound utility player Jeffery Carter to a knee injury. Jake Ford will take Carter’s place at cornerback and senior Beau Mask will take over at the receiver spot.
Last week, Mask caught two touchdown passes of 51 and 52 yards. Jake Bishop got it done through the air and on the ground as he accounted for four of the five Bearcat touchdowns. Tre Owens and Jase McClellan will be in the backfield after being shut down against Boswell.
If they want to runaway with this one, Aledo will have to get the running game going.
Rider is facing a state contender for the second week in a row after falling to Denton Ryan last week 56-7. Aledo is also the third undefeated team Rider has faced this year, including Denton Ryan and Lubbock Coronado.
Quarterback Jorge Vargas has accounted for most of the highlights in Rider’s season. Last week he scored the lone touchdown on a 64 yard pass to Noah Randall. However. it will be up to Jayson Myles and the Raider defense to slow down the Aledo rushing game. If they are able to do that, this one could stay close.
