They shook hands. Then it was all Allen from there.
Allen entered Week 2 at 1-0 after beating Duncanville 26-7, while DeSoto came in 0-1 after a 38-14 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas. That opener became a national story after three of DeSoto’s four captains declined the pregame handshake. There was no repeat of that controversy Friday night at Eagle Stadium.
Allen took control immediately. After forcing a DeSoto punt on the opening possession, sophomore quarterback Ty Snell found Grant Abercrombie for a 66-yard touchdown on Allen’s first offensive play. The Eagles kept building from there, getting rushing scores from KP Jackson and Lyndon Spriggs before Snell connected with Zach Williams late in the second quarter for a 28-0 halftime lead.
The third quarter turned the game into a rout. Snell threw two more touchdown passes, Spriggs returned the kickoff following an Allen safety 77 yards for a score, and the Eagles pushed the lead to 50-0 before resting starters. Snell finished with 169 passing yards and four touchdowns on just seven attempts.
Allen’s defense was every bit as impressive. Jeremiah Storey intercepted two passes, while the Eagles finished with 13 tackles for loss and five sacks. DeSoto finally broke through on a 26-yard Jayden Shaw touchdown run with 3:18 remaining.
Allen improves to 2-0 and now faces Southlake Carroll, which is coming off a 40-10 loss to North Crowley. DeSoto drops to 0-2 and turns immediately to another major rivalry matchup against Duncanville.
