We had Allen ranked No. 1 in Texas before the season started. Three games in, the Eagles have done nothing but make that ranking look better, and they are building a pretty strong case as the best team in the country.
Allen opened by beating Duncanville 26-7. Then came a stunning 50-6 demolition of defending state champion DeSoto. On Friday night, the Eagles added Southlake Carroll to the list with a 56-35 win at Dragon Stadium.
This one was actually tied 14-14 after the first quarter, and for a while it looked like we might get a four-quarter shootout. Then Allen hit another gear. The Eagles scored 21 points in the second quarter to take a 35-21 halftime lead, creating the separation they needed before the break.
Carroll kept moving the ball and found the end zone in each quarter, but Allen always had an answer. The Eagles added 14 more points in the third quarter, stretching the lead to 49-28 and keeping the Dragons from building any real comeback momentum. From there, Allen controlled the game, matched Carroll whenever needed, and closed out another convincing win against an elite opponent.
That is three games against three of the biggest names in Texas High School football, and three convincing wins.
Allen is 3-0 and now heads into district play against Prosper. Southlake Carroll falls to 1-2 and will look to reset against Keller Central.
