Allen’s Cinderella story came to an end on Saturday as the Eagles took on the North Crowley Panthers at Southlake Stadium, with both teams hoping to make it to the semifinals. It was a dogfight.
Allen Eagles
Dylan Chapman led the Eagles, completing 11 of 21 passes for 171 yards. Chapman connected with Messiah Washington for 101 yards on 4 receptions, Micah Ellis on 3 passes for 39 yards, and Quinton Hammonds on 2 passes for 30 yards. With no scores coming from the air, the Eagles turned to their ground game as Amir McDowell rushed for 91 yards on 10 carries, scoring twice. Caleb “The Jet” Smith rushed for 73 yards on 8 carries, scoring once, and Micah Ellis rushed for 64 yards on 11 carries.
North Crowley Panthers
Chris Jimerson completed 6 of 13 passes for 165 yards, throwing for 2 touchdowns and rushing for 80 yards and a touchdown. Jimerson connected with Dekoryian West-Davis for 93 yards on 4 receptions and a touchdown, and Mason Ferguson on 2 passes for 72 yards and a touchdown. With limited scoring from the deep air threat, the Panthers took to the ground as Ashton Searl rushed for 171 yards on 12 carries, scoring twice, and Cornelius Warren rushed for 50 yards on 8 carries, scoring twice himself.
Both teams were in a back-and-forth shootout the whole game until the 4th quarter, when the Panthers were able to find holes in the Allen defense, allowing the Panthers to slip out of this one with a victory.
North Crowley won 49-37.
Next week, North Crowley will face another tough challenge as they take on the defending state champion Duncanville Panthers, who are coming off a dominating win over Westfield 70-28 and look to continue their domination and return to AT&T Stadium.
