Alvin Key Players and Storylines
Matthew Bass is trying his best to follow in his father Mike’s footsteps. Mike Bass was the last coach to lead Alvin to the playoffs all the way back in 2005.
Fast forward 21 years, and the Yellowjackets are aiming to make similar strides in year two under Matthew’s leadership. If they’re to snap that playoff drought, they need to get closer with the top five teams in their district. The Jackets were outscored by them 251-17 last year.
A bevy of returning skill talent should give Alvin more of a punch this season. Quarterback Anthony Desanto (1,149 passing yards and six touchdowns) is a true field general, and he’s got a receiver with plenty of potential to aim for in junior Kollin Breaux (210 receiving yards and two touchdowns). Up front, three-year starter guard Jacobi Small will be a much-needed leader on a unit that is replacing three starters from last year.

On the other side of the ball, expect to hear safety Travis Goss’ (63 tackles) name called a lot this fall with his playmaking ability. Rover Blaine Bingham (47 tackles, one INT) is another player who always seems to put himself in the right spot on the field, while cornerback Tracey Goss (27 tackles) has the speed to hang with opposing teams’ top receivers.
With a full offseason under Bass and 29 returning lettermen, Alvin is poised to take a step forward on the field in 2026. They’ll hope that step is enough to put them in the conversation for a playoff berth that has proved elusive across the past two decades.
