Amarillo Beats Coronado in District 2-5A Matchup

On Thursday night the Coronado Mustangs traveled to the panhandle to take on the Amarillo Sandies in a district matchup. 

Coronado Mustangs

Quarterback Isaiah Vazquez completed 11 of 20 passes for 101 yards and rushed for 15 yards. Vazquez connected with receivers Joe Castro, who had 2 receptions for 30 yards, Ke’vonte Carr, who had 2 receptions for 23 yards, and Dominic Parrish, who also hauled in 2 receptions for 17 yards. As little success the Mustangs had through the air, the ground game was able to get them to the endzone. Demarion Finch rushed for 110 yards on 18 carries, and Davien Lopez carried the rock 3 times for 25 yards, finding the endzone once. 

Amarillo 

Quarterback Will Flaming had a tremendous night, as he completed 14 of 18 passes for 348 yards, throwing for 4 touchdowns and rushing for another. Flaming’s main target, Oliver Parsons, put up video game numbers, racking up 241 yards on only 6 receptions, finding himself in the endzone 4 times.   Rylan Leathers had 4 receptions on the night totaling 47 yards. The Sandies were also successful moving the ball on the ground, as Pius Vokes rushed for 145 yards on 16 carries, finding the endzone 3 times. 

Amarillo won big over Coronado 66-14. 

Next week Coronado will continue their district play at home against the Abilene Eagles, who are coming off a 38-35 win against Lubbock Cooper.  Amarillo will have next week off but will resume district play against Abilene on October 27th
