Arlington Bowie Sends Statewide Notice After Crucial Win

Arlington Bowie Volunteers’ 21-20 statement victory over Arlington High puts rest of the state on notice.


Arlington Bowie was slighted as the underdog for their 6A division 4 match up with the Undefeated Arlington High School Colts Friday Night.  The Vols jumped out to an early lead and with the help of their defense, who held the Colts to 0-4 on 4th downs in the first half.  It was Bowie’s first win at Wilemon Stadium against Arlington High since 1982, they were previously 0-3.


Bowie is currently tied at the top of a heated 6A division 4 where the top 4 teams in the district have a combined record of 20-4.  The Volunteers use a strong running attack lead by Quarterback Drevonn Ponder and Running backs D’Aunte Provost and Marsaillus Sims.  Each have carried the ball 40 plus times for a combined 1,261 yards.


The defense has also been a strong suit of the team as they have combined for a total of 18 sacks, three each by Deante Betts and Jadyn Landrum and 5 interceptions through the teams first 6 games.  They have also forced 8 fumbles and recovered 6 of them.  In each of the teams 5 wins, they have allowed no more than 20 points each time.


With over a month left before playoffs, the Volunteers look to continually improve and hold onto the top spot in the district as what could be a District championship match up against the Martin Warriors awaits them for the final game.
