Atascocita made a loud statement Thursday night, dominating Katy 52-33 at Tully Stadium. The Eagles, picked by Editor-in-Chief KP Kelly as the preseason 6A Division I champions, backed up the hype with a performance that showed they’re ready for a title chase.
Christopher Toney opened the scoring with a touchdown, and from there the Eagles never looked back. Katy managed a field goal, but Atascocita quickly stretched the lead. By halftime, the Eagles were in full control, leading 24-13 thanks to touchdowns from Brian Manuel and steady play from quarterback Cardae Mack.
The third quarter put the game firmly out of reach. Atascocita forced a turnover and turned it into points with a Keldrick Jenkins touchdown. Mack followed with a strike to Manuel, then later broke free on a long touchdown run, adding to the Eagles’ growing lead.
Katy’s offense had its moments, with Fayo George and Tremayne Hill each scoring twice to keep the Tigers on the board. But the Tigers never seriously threatened to close the gap against a disciplined Atascocita attack that answered nearly every score.
By the final whistle, the Eagles had secured a convincing 52-33 win to move to 2-0. With Katy falling to 0-2, Atascocita heads into a massive showdown with Westlake carrying plenty of momentum and confidence.
