When it comes down to it, 21-6A will be decided in a clash of titans between Atascocita and Galena Park North Shore.
Of course it was Atascocita that thwarted North Shore’s attempt at back-to-back state titles in the playoffs after Atascocita avenged their loss in the regular season matchup, but both teams produced outstanding playoff runs and are more than ready for the 2017 season.
Atascocita loses a pivotal cog in their offense in quarterback Daveon Boyd. They also lose their leading receiver in LuJuan Winningham but return a phenomenal running back committee with DeCarlos Demerritte, Dammion Green and Shannon Junior.
North Shore will have their strength on the defensive side of the ball with all-district linebackers Jeremiah Walter and Jacoby Allen leading the way. North Shore just like their district rival, lose their quarterback and leading receiver and will look to the new crop to fill the void.
North Shore will edge Atascocita this year though because they routinely produce winning seasons and understand what it takes to beat difficult teams late in the season. Sure, Atascocita will give North Shore some trouble but North Shore will continue to be a dominant force throughout the state.

Last year, the district race came down to Galena Park North Shore and Humble Atascocita and I don’t expect to change too much in 2017.
Both teams lost a lot of talent due to graduation, but I like what North Shore brings back on defense that includes first team all-district linebacker Jacoby Allen. If the younger guys can develop quickly, the Mustangs have a real chance to be a contender this upcoming season.
Prediction: North Shore

District 21-6A appears to be in store for a two-horse race for the district title in 2017 between a pair of familiar foes — Galena Park North Shore and Atascocita.
Last season, the two matched records at 12-2 on the season, although North Shore earned the district edge with a 31-21 regular season victory over Atascocita before falling to the Eagles 33-27 in the playoffs. Looking forward to 2017, each power loses plenty. North Shore and Atascocita will both be tasked with replacing their star quarterback and leading wide receiver. I think the edge will be determined by who returns more that appears to be North Shore, which will feature a stout defense once again led by linebackers Jeremiah Walter and Jacoby Allen, while running back Kerrion Hadnot appears primed for a breakout season.
Just as it was last season, expect the district to be decided by a single game and expect that edge to fall in North Shore’s favor.

Circle the Atascocita – North Shore games on your respective calendars. It’s going to be a good one. Both teams have playmakers and both had really solid playoff runs last year. Their first matchup in 2016 was decided by a mere 10 points, their second went to overtime, I expect this game to be even closer this year.
Ultimately, I think North Shore takes this district and the game against Atascocita home on the back of a strong running game led by Kerrion Hadnot and a defense led by Jacoby Allen. They’re gonna be a power, and the upcoming clash will be good.
Prediction: North Shore
