Battle Line On 59: Texas High School Football Game Of The Week

NEW CANEY — On Friday, the Game of The Week takes place in Texan Drive Stadium for the Battle Line on 59.

The New Caney Eagles and the Porter Spartans. Arguably the best rivalry in the Houston area. A Houston Texans player comes out for the coin toss, parachuters, concerts and live events all come out for the big game.

No matter the record, fans show up loud and proud, excited to earn bragging rights. This year is as big as ever, both teams are 5-1 in district, New Caney was handed its first district loss last week from Barber Hill.

Porter’s sole district loss came against undefeated Crosby, who it lost to by seven points. New Caney dropped its first game of the season last week and it wasn’t pretty.

Barbers Hill shockingly blew the brakes off the Eagles 49-21. Star option quarterback Jordan Cooper was held to 107 rushing yards while the typically stout Eagle defense let Barbers Hill run all over it.

They’ll be looking to rebound and a rivalry like Battle Line on 59 is the best time to bounce back.

Porter is coming off its fifth consecutive win, a 28-13 win against Humble. The Spartans look to extend their winning streak to six this week.

Led by a stifling defense headed by Baylor commit Christian Morgan, the Spartans force turnovers on a weekly basis. The offense is carried by workhorse back Carlos Norman and quarterback Zane Russell.

They’ve shocked a lot of people with this win streak and in order to extend it, they’ll need to muster everything they have.
