2A Team of the Week: Agua Dulce Longhorns
Agua Dulce needed all 48 minutes to hold off Center Point last Friday. Literally.
With the Longhorns trailing 41-35 and just seconds remaining, quarterback Lane Ranly took a snap under center, rolled slightly to the right, and burrowed into the end zone on the final play of the game. That allowed Christian Lara to kick the game-winning extra point in a 42-41 thriller. The victory was Agua Dulce’s first in the playoffs since 2019.
Ranly had a field day for the Longhorns, throwing for 311 yards and three touchdowns while adding another 107 yards and two scores on the ground. Benny Espinoza was by far his favorite target on the night. The sophomore caught 10 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Bryan King also chipped in with six catches for 99 yards.
Next up for Agua Dulce is a meeting with Chilton. That game will kick off in Flatonia at 7:00 on Friday. With a win, Agua Dulce would advance to the third round of playoffs for the first time since 1985.
