Denton Ryan has proven it knows how to win playoff football games, and it looked well on its way to another victory up 21-0 against Red Oak at halftime.
Red Oak had other ideas.
Behind a 25-yard touchdown run by Moses Martindale to open the third quarter followed by two touchdowns passes from Jaylon Robinson and Brayden Robinson, Red Oak tied the game up at 21 early in the fourth quarter.
That sent proceedings to overtime.
Denton Ryan struck first in overtime to go up 28-21, but Jaylon Robinson wasn’t done yet for the Hawks.
He first found Warren Roberson for a 14-yard touchdown to bring Red Oak within one. And after a wild comeback, the Wildcats decided to try and end the game right then and there.
Yet again, the Robinson to Robinson connection came in clutch as Jaylon threw back across his body to find Brayden for the game-winning two-point conversion to hand Denton Ryan its first bi-district loss since 2007.
