Next year, Comal ISD opens the doors of Davenport High School, and it appears appears the head football coach is in place.
Boerne Champion offensive coordinator J.D. Zimmerhanzel announced on Twitter on Friday that he will filling the role while also serving as athletic director at Davenport.
With Zimmerhanzel overseeing the offense, the Chargers posted an overall record of 13-2 last season, outscoring their opponents 633-336 with seven outings of at least 44 points, including a 70-point showing against Leander Glenn to open the playoffs.
Champion advanced to the Class 5A, Division II state semifinals before falling 55-21 to Fort Bend Marshall.
