Brothers will face a Big-12 sibling rivalry as Denton Guyer’s Cooper Lanz commits to Baylor

With his older brother, John Lanz- a former Denton Guyer Standout- playing college ball at TCU, Guyer defensive end Cooper Lanz took the term “sibling rivalry” to the next level when he committed to a conference rival: Baylor.

Lanz announced his commitment via Twitter on Thursday:

With his older brother playing on the offensive line for the Horned Frogs, Lanz may go head to head on the defensive end of the ball for Baylor should he sign with the Bears in the winter.

Lanz joked that there is already “tension” on which schools’ gear they will be donning when the brothers play against each other. “But [John] is definitely excited for me,” Lanz added.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a majority of Lanz’s recruitment was done virtually, but when he first received the offer he knew he was going to end up in Waco. “I’ve always liked Baylor,” Lanz said. “I knew that it would be a good fit for me.

In the 2019 season Lanz recorded 90 tackles and seven sacks along with forcing two fumbles. Lanz tallied 60 solo tackles and recovered two fumbles helping the Wildcats hold opponents to 21.4 points per game. Lanz was selected as a District 5-6A second-team member.

Lanz says he already has really great relationships with the coaches. “[Baylor has] really great facilities, a winning history and great academics.”

Lanz’s other offers come from schools like Houston, North Texas, Army (West Point), Fordham and more.
