Bulldogs Hold Off Sandies’ Late Surge to Stay Undefeated

Tonight, the Midland Bulldogs took on the Amarillo Sandies out in Amarillo, Texas. Midland, who are 2-0 on the season, look to continue their dominant run as they have outscored their opponents 87-27. Amarillo is coming off a nail-biting game beating Cleveland 28-27, and is looking to make a statement and end this tough Midland Bulldog team’s undefeated streak.

The night would start off hot for the Bulldogs as junior running back Elijah Mccoy would rush for 210 yards off 28 touches as he scored two touchdowns within 5 minutes out the gate. Mccoy would also end up scoring one more touchdown in the second half. Joining McCoy in the endzone would be senior Tim Babino as he rushed for 19 yards off 4 touches. We would not see much air game from the Bulldogs as Quarterback Tristan Love would pass for 27 yards going 3 for 3 on the night. Love would also end up almost finding the endzone rushing for 78 yards off 18 touches.

The Bulldogs’ defense started off hot, intercepting the ball two times in the first half. Their defense, led by Senior Athen Dominguez, who had 5 solo tackles on the night ending with 13 total tackles in the game, held Amarillo to 7 at the end of the first half.

Amarillo started the game cold, their only score would come from Bryson Brown, who had a 75-yard kickoff return touchdown, but we wouldn’t see much from Amarillo until the second half. The second half started, and Amarillo was a whole new team, Bryson Brown would get himself a 4-yard rushing touchdown, and Johnquarius Ervin would catch a touchdown pass crawling back, still trailing Midland 26-20. Quarterback Pius Vokes would end the scoring for Amarillo, rushing for one more touchdown falling to Midland 32-27.

Next week Midland will defend their home turf against a 2-1 strong looking Monterey team after they went 0-10 last year, and Amarillo will travel to Odessa to take on a 1-2 Bronchos team.
