Texas high school quarterbacks continue to shine, and ESPN.com just projected Cade Klubnik as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. It’s big news, especially for fans of Westlake High School in Austin, where Klubnik built his reputation as one of the best prep QBs in the country.
At Westlake, Klubnik led the Chaps to three straight state championships, going a perfect 30-0 as a starter. He racked up more than 7,000 passing yards and nearly 90 touchdowns in his high school career, carving up defenses and earning MaxPreps National Player of the Year honors.
He carried that momentum to Clemson, where he steadily developed into a top-tier college quarterback. In three seasons, Klubnik threw for 7,180 yards and 57 touchdowns while rushing for nearly 800 more yards and 13 scores. His 2024 campaign was a breakout year, as he posted 3,639 passing yards, 36 touchdowns, and added 7 rushing TDs while leading the Tigers to an ACC title.
Joining Klubnik as a projected top 10 pick is another Texas high school alum—Garrett Nussmeier. The former Marcus High School (Flower Mound) quarterback took over full-time at LSU in 2024 and didn’t disappoint. He threw for 4,043 yards and 29 touchdowns in his first full season as a starter and earned MVP honors in the 2024 ReliaQuest Bowl. ESPN has him firmly in the top 10 in most early mocks.
And don’t sleep on Conner Weigman. The former Bridgeland (Cypress, TX) standout is now at Houston after transferring from Texas A&M, and some early mock drafts have him sneaking into the first round as well. He’s totaled nearly 2,700 yards and 19 touchdowns through his first three seasons, and he’s got a chance to raise his stock in 2025.
Texas high school quarterbacks are once again making noise, and next year’s NFL Draft could be another big one for the Lone Star State.
