Phil Danaher is one win away from having his name on top of the all-time Texas high school football wins record. Danaher currently sits tied at 426 wins with Texas coaching legend G.A. Moore Jr.. Danaher has led his Calallen Wildcats to 32 consecutive playoff appearances, seven state semifinals and one state title appearance.
Danaher took over at Calallen in 1984, and 358 of his 426 wins have come at Calallen. Danaher also has the most playoff wins as a head coach with 75 just above Steve Lineweaver, and of course Moore Jr. with 65. Danaher has been coaching for 42 years total and averaged about 10 wins a season. Before Danaher took over at Calallen the Wildcats had not made the playoffs in 28 years. The only year the Wildcats have not made the postseason under Danaher was in his first year when they went 5-4-1.
Some of the wins were taken away earlier this year for Calallen playing an ineligible player in non-district play, but the wins were reinstated by the UIL in October. Danaher will go for the record breaking 427th win of his career against Flour Bluff in the district championship game. Calallen is 8-1 headed into the district championship and is currently ranked number nine is our TexasHSFootball 5A power rankings.
