CE King Downs Vandegrift, Reaches First State Final

Austin Roof Inspection

CE King made history Saturday night, knocking off Vandegrift 58-41 in the Class 6A Division II semifinals at McLane Stadium to earn the program’s first-ever trip to the state championship game.

Quarterback Timothy Potts was the difference all night. The senior accounted for five total touchdowns, rushing for four scores and adding one through the air. Potts repeatedly gashed the Vandegrift defense up the middle, including several momentum-swinging runs when the Vipers threatened to climb back into the game. Senior running back Dionne Sims added two rushing touchdowns, including a fourth-down score late in the fourth quarter that sealed the win.

Vandegrift made things interesting behind a huge night from quarterback Miles Teodecki, who threw six touchdown passes, four of them to senior wide receiver Brock Chilton. The Vipers cut a 21-point deficit to seven early in the fourth quarter after a pair of quick strikes and a successful onside kick recovery. Each time, CE King responded, leaning on Potts’ legs and a defense that delivered timely stops and turnovers.

CE King will face DeSoto in the Class 6A Division II state championship game at AT&T Stadium on December 20
