China Spring vs Gatesville: A Friday Night Fight
China Spring (6-0, 1-0) travels to Gatesville on Friday night to take on the Hornets (2-4, 0-1) in a District 9-4A DII battle at 7:30 PM. The Cougars look to continue their winning ways over an improved Gatesville team.

Gatesville Offense vs China Spring Defense
The Hornets will bring a balanced attack against the Cougar defense. QB Wesley Brown can stand tall in the pocket and get the ball outside to Carson Brizendine and Banner Allman. Brown can also hand the ball off to Hayden Mooney or tuck it himself and gain yardage on the ground.
According to China Spring Head Coach Brian Bell, Gatesville is a very well-coached team and they can present a lot of challenges to the Cougar defense. Coming off of a shutout last week, the Cougar defense is up to the challenge.
With Keith Njemini and Greg Salazar upfront and Isiah Williams and Jacob Mott patrolling the secondary, the Cougars like their matchup against the Gatesville offense.
China Spring Offense vs Gatesville Defense
It’s no secret that the Cougars can put points on the board. China Spring scored 62 in the first half last week against Jarrell. But the Gatesville defense can create turnovers. The Hornets have nine takeaways on the year, with DB Jacob Baker pulling in two interceptions.
China Spring will need to control the line of scrimmage, and that starts in the middle with Senior C Colby Hand. Hand, the only returning starter from the offensive line last season, is leading his unit upfront.
Leader on the O-line
Coach Bell says Hand’s progress that he has made this year is unbelievable. He has put in a lot of hard work, which was rewarded last week when Hand earned Player of the Game honors.

Watch for Hand and his line to make holes for QB Major Bowden and RB Kyle Barton getting them quickly to the second level of the defense. Once there Bowden and Barton’s speed and elusiveness will once again light up the scoreboard.
