Brenton Whitaker is taking over in Clarendon.
Clarendon CISD approved Whitaker as the Broncos’ new athletic director and head football coach, adding a coach with 14 years of Texas high school football experience. The district also named Dr. Bryon May as its incoming superintendent.
Whitaker spent last season at Borger as the assistant head coach and offensive line coach. His resume also includes three years as the head coach at North Lamar and time as the offensive coordinator at Pittsburg.
He takes over a Clarendon program coming off a 2-9 season. The Broncos compete in Class 2A Division II and represent a small Panhandle community located about 60 miles east of Amarillo.
For Clarendon, the move gives the Broncos a new leader heading into the 2026 season as the district looks to build stability across athletics and academics.
