Clear Springs Key Players and Storylines

Since 2021, Clear Springs has won seven games in the odd numbered years and eight games in the even numbered years. That consistency will be put to the test this fall after the Chargers graduated a large and talented senior class.

Sixteen of the Chargers’ 19 all-district honorees from 2025 graduated, so it’s up to the next generation of Chargers to maintain that winning tradition.

It starts with the rushing attack. Big, physical 6’1″, 211-pound back Darrien Moore (357 rushing yards and seven touchdowns) showed flashes last year as a backup and is poised to make a big leap this fall. He’ll have a strong foundation in front of him. 6’6″, 290-pound senior Connor Walter and 5’11”, 265-pound junior Mariano Aguirre both were second team all-district selections a year ago. Even more impressive, Aguirre was born deaf but has excelled as Clear Springs’ starting center.

The Chargers will have a new starting quarterback this year, but he will have a big safety blanket with 6’5″, 205-pound tight end Koltyn Hutto.

The defense faces an even bigger rebuild. They don’t have a single returner that had more than 10 tackles last season. Their 12 leading tacklers are all gone.

If there’s reason for optimism, it’s Clear Springs’ culture. The Chargers have missed the playoffs just once in their 18-year history, and that came in the program’s inaugural season in 2008. The Chargers will need that winning tradition to come up big this fall as they settle in a whole new crop of starters on both sides of the ball.
