Colleyville Heritage officially hires Kirk Martin as new head coach

This time of year, the coaching carousel is on high alert.

With coaching and teaching contracts coming up, head jobs and athletic director positions opening up, and many high-profile names are courted by school districts all across the state.

This year, Colleyville Heritage went back to the coaching search after Joe Willis left for the same position at Tyler Lee, leaving with a record of 40-23 in five seasons. He has a total of 99 career wins and a state title under his belt while coaching at Cedar Park in 2014.

Colleyville Heritage now brings in former Manvel head coach and Syracuse assistant Kirk Martin to pick up where Willis left off.

At Manvel, Martin helped create a powerhouse program in the talent-rich area of Houston, and he takes over a team that made the playoffs in each of the last five seasons with two state quarterfinal appearances coming in 2019 and 2016.

During his 10-year career at Manvel, Martin was 108-25, won six district championships and appeared in two state-title games.
