HOUSTON — It didn’t take long for the Cy-Fair High School to control Friday’s Region II Semifinal contest abt TDECU Stadium, defeating  Friendswood in a lopsided 45-14 victory.

The (12-0) Bobcats set the pace and tone of the game early, not allowing much of anything to be produced on the Mustangs offense.

Cy-Fair didn’t turn on the jets until the second quarter in which they scored three touchdowns. To start the scoring spree, Bobcat quarterback Cam Arnold delivered a beautiful pass to receiver Christian Richmond on the 47-yard touchdown pass.

Friendswood (9-3) would answer back just a little over three minutes later with a score of their own. Courtesy of freshman quarterback Luke Grden to receiver Austin Alvaraez on the 20-yard strike.

However, Cy-Fair would not let this go unnoticed. Next drive, with 4:26 remaining in the first half, the Bobcat’s made magic happen again in the passing game. This time Arnold’s target was speedy receiver Eddie Sumler, throwing a 42-yard bomb to him for the six points.

Then with only 22 seconds left in the first half, Cy-Fair would score again on the bootleg pass from Arnold to Jacob Farrell for the seven-yard touchdown. At this point, they had stretched the lead to 24-7.

The gun slinging did not continue into the second half but the point tallying would. Early in the third quarter, Friendswood ended up in a precarious position following a misguided return by their returner before the first offensive series began.

As the Mustangs were backed up on their own end-zone, Grden rolled out of the pocket and meandered in the end zone before being sacked. After the hit, he fumbled, which would ultimately be recovered by Bobcat defensive lineman Josh Smith.

Five minutes later, with 6:03 left in the game and five yards out from the goal line, Bobcat’s running back Trenton Kennedy ran the toss right and dove over several defenders. As he dove, he stretched the ball just enough to hit the front right pylon, extending the score to 38-7.

Both Cy-Fair and Friendswood would add touchdowns late in the fourth quarter.

Cy-Fair (12-0) will face the winner of Saturday’s Kingwood vs. Langham Creek game next week at TDECU Stadium at noon.
