Cy-Fair Stuns Katy in Playoff Upset

Round Rock Hail Roof Inspection

It is round 2 of The Texas High School Football playoffs! There are a lot of great games going on this week, but the one I will be covering is The Katy Tigers vs The Cy-Fair Bobcats. Katy is one of the most notorious teams in Texas High School Football history, but Cy-Fair is not to be taken lightly this season, especially with quarterback #2 Trey Owens. The results of this game could be shocking.

Cy-Fair kickoff to Katy. Cy-Fair’s defense laid on the pressure and forced Katy to punt the ball. Cy-Fair took over on offense, and quarterback Trey threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver #7 Connor Porter. Katy received back possession of the ball and they started with great runs with a minute left in the 1st quarter running back #8 Chase Johnsey rushed in for a 9-yard touchdown. In the 2nd quarter, the game was at a stalemate with neither team scoring a touchdown. At halftime, the score was 7-6, with Cy-fair leading.

At the start of the 3rd quarter, Katy kicked off to Cy-Fair. The Bobcats kept collecting yards until Trey connected another touchdown pass to Connor. After a back and forth Katy drove the ball to the red zone and quarterback #15 Gunner Nelson connected to tightend #84 Luke Carter for a touchdown pass then another pass to Chase for a 2-point conversion to tie up the game. End of the 3rd quarter the score was tied at 14-14. Starting the 4th quarter Katy was in the red zone, but Cy-Fair caused a fumble and recovered it before Katy could get into the endzone. However, Cy-Fair almost immediately punted right back to Katy, and running back #40 Tremayne Hill had a long run that landed him in the red zone. This led to Chase rushing in his 2nd touchdown of the game with Katy finally taking the lead. 7 minutes left in regulation, Cy-Fair needs a touchdown to tie up the game and Trey Owens is up for the job. With numerous runs and passes, Cy-Fair used all the time left to get into the Redzone, and Trey connected with wide receiver #4 Owen Carter for a touchdown pass, tying up the game and resulting in overtime.

In overtime, Cy-Fair will start on offense. Trey got them close, but running back #34, Jamel Nickerson, punched it in for a touchdown. Katy took over on offense, but they could not move the ball an inch failing to tie up the game, resulting in a victory for The Cy-Fair Bobcats.

The Katy Tigers have not lost this early in playoffs since 2001, two decades. A legend has fallen, but as Cy-Fair continues to round 3, they have a larger titan to topple the #1 ranked team in Houston, The North Shore Mustangs.
