Daingerfield, Baylor WR Denzel Mims headed to the Big Apple; picked 59th by Jets

Denzel Mims (Daingerfield) heard his name called on Friday and has a chance to turn on his afterburners in New York this fall.

The Jets selected the talented Baylor wide receiver with the 59th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Mims will be one of the newest targets for Jets quarterback Sam Darnold. The Jets finished 2019 with a 7-9 season.

Mims helped the Bears reach the Big 12 Championship Game for the first time in school history by hauling in 66 catches for 1,020 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2019. He was an all-state wide receiver and state champion sprinter during his time at Daingerfield.

Earlier in the night, he Houston Texans took TCU defensive lineman Ross Blacklock (Missouri City Elkins) 40th overall, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Colorado wide receiver Laviska Shenault (Desoto) with the next pick, the Cleveland Browns took LSU defensive back Grant Delpit with the 44th pick, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers took Antoine Winfield (The Woodlands) 45th, the Philadelphia Eagles selected Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts (Channelview) 53rd and the Baltimore Ravens took Ohio State running back J.K. Dobbins (La Grange) at 55.
