Things are riding high for the Jones family and football. Jerry’s Cowboys are 11-2 and look to have the number one seed locked up in the NFC. John Stephen Jones, Jerry’s grandson and Stephen Jones’ son, has the Highland Park Scots playing in the 5A Division I State Title game.

Jones has led the Scots to their first state title appearance since 2005, when Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was at the helm.

The Cowboys connections run deep with this Highland Park playoff run, all of their playoffs games have either been played at the Ford Center at The Star or AT&T Stadium, and the Scots have won them all. That won’t change for the final game of the playoffs, as it will be played at AT&T Stadium.

Jones and family have been watching John Stephen every step of the way, in their suite at The Star and AT&T Stadium. Jerry was shown on TV during the state semifinal game against Denton Ryan applauding in approval after a late score.

In an interview with the Fort-Worth Star Telegram, John Stephen was asked if there was any difference talking to his grandfather and father given who they are. “Not at all,” Jones said. “My dad gives me advice every game. I talked to my grandfather. They’re just like any other father or grandfather. They talk to their kids. They give great advice and I love them.”

John Stephen will look to make his family proud on Friday and bring home a state title, in the house that his grandfather built.
