Braswell Key Players and Storylines

Justen Evans had tremendous success during his time at Corpus Christi Miller, leading the Buccaneers to the playoffs in his final seven seasons in charge. Now, he’ll take over a Braswell program that has made the playoffs just once in its ten-year history.

Braswell finished just 2-8 a year ago and only averaged just over 11 points per game, but a lot of underclassmen got playing time under their belts. Offensively, Braswell is spoiled with options out of the backfield. Running back Zahir Trufant (617 rushing yards and four touchdowns) is the standout returner after earning second team all-district honors a year ago. He’ll be joined by sophomore Chris Lark, who doesn’t shy away from contact, and senior Kameren Robinson.

Up front, versatile 6’2″, 275-pound senior Chasen Johnson and 5’10”, 255-pound center/guard Mason Richardson were both all-district honorable mentions in 2025.

Defensively, the Bengals have playmakers at all three levels. Safety Emanuel Fuller (95 tackles) had a monster sophomore year with five forced turnovers, while defensive end Ivory Marshall (73.5 tackles, 13 TFLs) will be a menace off the edge. At the second level, the Bengals will trust the returning tandem of Huran Brown III (47 tackles, 14 TFLs) and Grant Goshton (72 tackles).

There’s a lot of production back for the Bengals heading into 2026. If Justen Evans can work the same magic he did a Corpus Christi Miller, Braswell could quickly become a program on the upswing in District 5-6A.
