It was to be one of the marquee games of week one, but it turned into a lopsided affair. Denton Ryan cruised to a 40-7 victory over Longview in the inaugural Jerry Jones Classic at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, TX.

As the defending 5A-Div. I state champions, Denton Ryan showed that they have reloaded for another championship run.

After both teams traded touchdowns on their first two drives, the Lobos led 7-6. Then late in the first quarter, Raider running back Kalib Hicks scored again on a 69-yard touchdown.

After being forced to punt, Ryan defensive lineman Michael Gee blocked the Lobo punt and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown. This put Ryan up 20-7.

After getting the ball to midfield, a Lobo fumble was recovered by Ryan five-star LB Anthony Hill Jr.

A long completion from QB Khalon Davis to Antonio Thomas set up Hicks for his third touchdown of the day, this one from 23 yards out. This put Ryan up 27-7 late in the second quarter.

Turnovers and Drive Killers

The Ryan defense continued to dominate on the next drive. Defensive back Garyreon Robinson picked off Lobo QB Jordan Allen and ran it back for a touchdown. Ryan was in total control of the game up 33-7.

A long kick return set Longview up with good field position. However, the Lobos fumbled at the goal line and it was recovered for a touchback.

Ryan ran out the clock and led 33-7 at halftime.

Next week, the Raiders take on 6A powerhouse Denton Guyer. Longview will regroup as they host Marshall.
