It didn’t take long for transfer quarterback Shawn Robinson to make his mark. He opened the game with a perfectly floated long ball down the seam to KD Nixon on his first pass attempt. The Eagles scored two plays later on a 2-yard rush from Robinson and Desoto cruised to a blowout victory over Dallas Jesuit 47-13.

Robinson’s transfer from Denton Guyer has been well noted in the DFW area. But the quarterback didn’t show any signs of new-team jitters.

In fact, Desoto responded well. Robinson guided the Eagles to a 14-3 halftime lead. On the flip side, the slow start for the Dallas Jesuit Rangers forced them to make a switch at quarterback. Junior Parker Towns took over for the injured senior, Jacob Palisch, and the Rangers finally started gaining some momentum on offense, but it wasn’t enough.

Robinson and the rest of the Desoto Eagles team took care of business in the second half, scoring on their first possession. The Eagles drove the ball down the field and Robinson finished the drive with a broken play touchdown pass to Nixon.

Robinson, a TCU commit, made one mistake during the game as he threw an interception in the first half. Aside from the interception, Robinson delivered his passes with precision and accuracy—most notably to his new favorite target, KD Nixon. After holding the Eagles to a 14-3 halftime score, the Rangers were outscored 33-10 in the second half.

The Rangers were left without an answer and Desoto enforced their will—Shawn Robinson didn’t even play in the 4th quarter.

Ironically, the Eagles play Robinson’s ex-team—Denton Guyer—in their next game on Sept. 2. Robinson led Guyer to the 6A-II state quarterfinals game last season before losing 44-7. It should provide an intriguing storyline.

For Dallas Jesuit it doesn’t get any easier. The Rangers play a stout Plano East side on Sept. 2 that is littered with talent.

One thing is for certain though—the Shawn Robinson era has begun.
