It’ll probably be a while before Georgia tries to compete in Texas high school football again.
Creekside traveled almost 800 miles to play DeSoto over the weekend.
The road trip wasn’t worth it.
The Eagles came out on top of the Seminoles 70-0; it was the largest margin of victory since the same score in 1981, when DeSoto blanked Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis.
Obviously, the Eagles know a thing or two about high-octane offensive beatdowns. Including last year’s state championship triumph of 74-14 over Humble Summer Creek, DeSoto now has outscored its last two opponents 144-14.
The Eagles marched down the field for touchdowns on their first six drives, as well as a punt return for a score—all in the first half. By halftime, DeSoto led their out-of-state opponent 49-0, limiting Creekside to only 43 total yards. In total, DeSoto had 356 yards; the defense provoked three turnovers against the undersized Seminoles, who looked diminutive on the field, and shrank as the contest continued.
Of course, there were some questions coming into the season. Virginia Tech commit Kelden Ryan had to replace DJ Bailey, who led his team to two straight state titles and a 29-2 record in two years as a starter. Ryan proved more than capable, accounting for 231 yards of total offense and four touchdowns. He was benched early for backup and Bishop Lynch transfer Legend Howell, who got some reps.
SMU pledge Daylon Singleton hauled in four catches for 111 yards and two touchdown. Running backs Deondrae Riden Jr. and Myson Johnson-Cook combined for 142 yards and three touchdowns.
After the blowout, DeSoto improves to 9-2 against out-of-state opponents since 2010.
The Eagles next host the North Crowley Panthers this Friday at 7 pm.
