As Bowl season is winding down, star athletes have started flooding the transfer portal.

Former Texas Longhorn and DeSoto graduate receiver Johntay Cook has signed with the University of Washington football team, choosing the Huskies over Florida. Cook will step in for departing starters Giles Jackson and Jeremiah Hunter, whose eligibility will expire after Tuesday’s Sun Bowl.

He made the announcement, decked out in the Dawgs purple and gold, on his Instagram:

The DeSoto standout competed in 20 games for the Longhorns, playing in both the Sugar Bowl and the CFP semifinal game against his current squad a year ago, catching 16 passes for 273 yards and two scores. His highlight was a breakout this season against UTSA, nabbing a 12-yard toss from backup Arch Manning in a 56-7 blowout.

However, his time with the Burnt Orange expired on Nov. 7, ditching the team after watching his snaps and play time decrease significantly in the first couple games of the season.

As a premiere Texas high school competitor, Cook entered the NCAA as one of the most hyped prospects, joining the Longhorns as a five-star athlete.

In three seasons with DeSoto, he had 165 catches for 2,965 yards and 50 scores. An All-American and all-state honoree, Cook contributed to an offense that won the 6A Division II state championship against Vandegrift his senior year, opening the game with a 42-yard touchdown reception and finishing with three catches for 103 yards.

According to 247Sports, Cook ranks as the No. 13 transfer wide receiver and No. 37 overall player in the portal.

The transfer portal opened Dec. 7 and will remain open until Dec. 28, though athletes still playing in the postseason will get an additional five-day window to enter the portal when their season ends.
