In the bi-district round, DeSoto did pretty much what they were expected to do, flying past Shoemaker 63-6 at Eagle Stadium.
Since losing to Duncanville, the Eagles have now won five straight contests, averaging 59 points per game during that span.
The Eagles got hot early, opening the game with a five-play scoring drive that resulted in a 25-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Feaster. DeSoto would go on to score touchdowns on six of its seven first-half possessions and led 42-0 at the break; their only non-scoring first-half drive was a fumble in the red zone.
Shoemaker couldn’t find the board until 5:34 remaining, with Willie Thomas scoring from a yard out.
Quarterback Kelden Ryan led a conservative albeit accurate passing game, tossing for 135 yards and three touchdowns on 76.9%, as well as rushing for 38 yards and a touchdown. The achievement marked the fourth consecutive contest in which Ryan has posted three or more passing touchdowns.
Early in the contest, Ryan was replaced by Deondrae Riden Jr., who also added an additional two touchdowns.
Primarily, the offense relied on their rushing game, scrambling 27 times for 256 yards.
The defense had three sacks, including two credited to Marshall Kirven.
DeSoto will next face Wylie East in the area round. The Eagles last played the Raiders last November, getting the 42-20 win on their way to an undefeated campaign.
