District 11-6A emerges from realignment as one of the strongest ever assembled

Another realignment has come and gone, and the landscape of high school football has been altered for every team in Texas.

Some programs saw old rivalries evaporate, others were elevated or dropped in classification, and others ushered in new eras and opponents by moving regions.

Across the state, the affects were felt, but perhaps one of the biggest outcomes of the process was the creation of one of the deepest districts of all time — District 11-6A.

Comprised of Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Duncanville, Mansfield, Mansfield Lake Ridge, Waco, Waco Midway and Waxahachie, the group has produced nine trips to the state championship game in the last nine years with the Panthers achieving the feat during the last two seasons.

Led by Duncanville, DeSoto, Cedar Hill and Midway, who were 42-11 in 2019, the group enters with a combined record of 54-38 with only Waco (1-9) and Waxahachie (2-8) failing to earn at least four victories.

And regardless of where the programs are currently, almost all have experience winning.

Waco has six state championships with 10 trips to the state finals. Lake Ridge has played for a state championship. Waxahachie has a state title.

And then there’s the district’s elite.

Cedar has three titles in four trips to the final, DeSoto has a ring, Duncanville has three title-game appearances with a championship to show for it, and Midway owns a pair of state runner-up campaigns.

From top to bottom, this is one of the strongest districts ever assembled, and the ultra fierce competition will stretch beyond the football season into almost every sport.

In the fall, however, eyes from across the state will be glued to District 11-6A, and rightfully so.
