As if spending the offseason as defending state champions wasn’t enough, the Lake Travis Cavaliers just recently secured the Texas 7on7 Division I championship. There’s virtually no reason to believe their winning ways come to an end in 2017, especially throughout district play. Lake Travis does lose a pretty significant amount of seniors, but with guys like Matthew Baldwin and Garrett Wilson in place, the Cavaliers appear to easily be the most talented and well-structured teaming the district.

Many would probably make the argument that Austin Westlake would have had a better opportunity to capture a state title if Sam Ehlinger was healthy.
However, it did not turn out that way but the silver lining is that several other quarterbacks got some game time reps including Taylor Anderson. Nakia Watson will always be a threat to break an impact play and will be a valuable asset.
Lake Travis loses a substantial amount of talent but the way that program is able to replace what they lose is second-to-none. Quarterback Matthew Baldwin will have a great target in receivers Alec Fuentes and Garrett Wilson. Defensively, they will have Reid Bacon and Kade Langston on the edges to provide a deadly pass rush.
While Austin Westlake always provides a tough matchup, Lake Travis has shown time and time again that they have Westlake’s number and it looks to be the same once again.

I like Lake Travis to reload and take this district again. They’re going to have a solid receiving corps with Garrett Wilson leading the charge in terms of raw explosion, and their defense returns a few playmakers like DE Reid Bacon and CB Nathan Parodi.
It’s not going to be the same team as last year, but that’s a universal experience across the entire state. What I do know is this – Lake Travis is still going to be a power, and I like them to win this district more than I do a Westlake team that will have to replace a truly great quarterback in Sam Ehlinger.

In District 25-6A, the conversation starts with the defending state champion Lake Travis. Even with losing several starters from a talented squad, the Cavaliers look prime to take home the district crown yet again in 2017.
Matthew Baldwin looks the part at quarterback while Garrett Wilson looks to continue his breakout 2017 after an impressive performance at the state 7-on- 7 tournament. The Cavs do have to replace eight starters on defense, but they should be able to reload and take home yet another district crown.
Prediction: Lake Travis
