The Panthers are one step closer for their third consecutive Class 6A Division I state title. If they attain their goal, they will be just the 20th school in UIL history to achieve the feat.
On Saturday afternoon, Duncanville shellacked The Woodlands 42-20 in the third round of the 6A Division I playoffs at Hutto Memorial Stadium.
The Panthers struck early, receiving the ball first and setting the tone by converting on a 6-yard slant to Oregon commit wide receiver Dakorien Moore. Alabama commit Keelon Russell followed it up with another 10-yard pass to Moore. By the end of the first quarter, Duncanville had established a 14-0 lead.
The Highlanders still fought back, managing to cut the lead to 28-20 in the fourth quarter, holding the Panthers to a single score in the previous period. However, Moore put the game away at the conclusion, capped by a 60-yard touchdown in double coverage and a short scoring grab with 2:55 remaining in the game.
Russell sailed 22 of 26 passes for a whopping 440 yards and six touchdowns.
Moore was the benefactor and the game’s MVP, hauling in 12 receptions for 226 yards and four scores. The No. 2-ranked player in the Lone Star State now has 67 catches for 1,258 yards and 18 touchdowns on the season. He now has seven 100+ yard games as a senior.
Duncanville will advance to the regional final against Cypress Bridgeland at Waco Midway Stadium at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
