Over two days, April 8th, and 9th, the coaches and teachers from Football University opened their Austin camp at Cedar Ridge High School to help the next generation of football players reach their potential. The results from the camp saw students who have been coming to these camps since as early as sixth grade perfect their game that will help them reach their goals of excelling at their high school, transition their game into college, and maybe make a career out of the game by playing in the National Football League.
Collin Sullivan has been coming to these camps since the sixth grade. He is heading into his sophomore year at Round Rock High School and these camps have been teaching him to hone specific techniques to excel in 2017. “I can learn a lot here at these camps and put myself ahead of most kids. That coming to these camps at a young age which is a good thing as it gave me a head start.”
Sullivan is an FBU All-American as his size, 6’1” 175 LBS, as only a sophomore, has him ahead of a lot of the other kids at these camps. “The one-on-one technique training is something that is really helping me get ready for the year” Sullivan said about the weekend camp.
A common thing that was heard from the students at the camp was that phrase, “technique”. As in, FBU has a “Dedicated student-athletes have one common goal: pursuing football at the highest levels. It is our proven belief that the competitive difference-maker at high levels of football is technique. Every weekend in the fall, positional battles are won on the field with superior technique.” (FBU)
Cedar Ridge’s Edgerrin Williams is a highly sought after defensive end. FBU is helping Williams reach his goal at playing his college ball at Alabama. “They’re helping me get my skills down and make them better than what they are now. They’re helping me with my hand placement, my footwork, and getting that down straight and giving me the exposure to get to where I’m trying to get to.”
Williams came to FBU as an eight grader who had talent, but needed guidance. “I came a long way since eight grade, as I’ve been doing this camp since I found out about it. I have a great coach that has been helping out to make sure my hand placement and footwork, just everything, he’s helped it all.”
The camp was ran by a combination of former college and professional players, with coaches who have been around the sport for decades. These kids, who had the opportunity to learn from these men over the weekend, will reap the rewards this upcoming season when they can use the techniques demonstrated during these two-days at Cedar Ridge.
