Former Jim Ned High School star Colt McCoy got the start at quarterback for the New York Giants against the Seattle Seahawks, filling in for an injured Daniel Jones.
McCoy was a star at Jim Ned High. He was coached in high school by his father. At Jim Ned, he threw for 9,344 yards and 116 touchdowns. He ranks as the all-time leading passer in Texas Division 2A high school history. He was the two-time Associated Press 2A Offensive MVP. McCoy then went on to star for the Texas Longhorns, where he was 45-8 as a starter.
McCoy is on his fourth NFL team. He signed with the Giants after being the backup in Washington for the past six years. Last week, McCoy came in for the injured Daniel Jones and helped preserve a Giants win against the Cincinnati Bengals. He got the start today and led the big underdog NY Giants to their 4th straight win and to first place in the NFC East.
McCoy did not have a great statistical game. McCoy was 13-22 for 105 yards and a touchdown. However, McCoy made a few big third-down plays to keep Giants drives alive. The Giants are now 5-7, one game ahead of Washington for first in the NFC East. They have the toughest schedule of teams in the division remaining, on paper, but 1 or 2 more wins for the Giants should give them the division and a playoff birth. Jones status is questionable for the Giants next game against the Cardinals and Colt McCoy might get his second start for the Giants.
