The Arizona Cardinals are placing veteran running back Adrian Peterson on injured reserve because of a neck injury. ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the move on Thursday and was later confirmed in a statement to Josina Anderson on Friday morning.

Peterson had suffered a neck injury back in November in a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and did not play in the team’s last two games.
The move puts an end to an eventful season for the former Palestine star. After starting his season with the New Orleans Saints, Peterson was traded to Arizona, where he played in six games for the Cardinals.
He provided a brief boost to an Arizona team that was near the bottom of the NFL in rushing yards per game prior to his arrival. He finished with 529 yards rushing and two touchdowns while also catching 11 passes for 70 yards.
