Former Texas HS Football Star Gets Big NFL Honor
Arlington Heights Tariq Woolen Named NFL Defensive Rookie Of The Month
Defensive back Tariq Woolen was named Defensive Rookie of the Month for the Seattle Seahawks.
Arguably the greatest UTSA football star of all-time (rivaling even Marcus Davenport), the former Arlington Heights graduate has been a stud in the Seahawks secondary, nabbing four interceptions, two fumbles, and permitting a 47.1 passer rating. His four interceptions came in four consecutive games.
Before being selected in the fifth round, the cornerback led Arlington Heights as a senior with 31 receptions for 536 yards and 10 touchdowns as a two-way performer.
After redshirting his freshman season, Woolen went on to lead a UTSA Roadrunners defense in the secondary toward their first C-USA championship triumph. During the NFL Combine, he clocked a 4.26 40-yard dash — the fourth-fastest time in history.
As per oddsmakers, he ranks second-best odds to win the Defensive Rookie of the Year award, behind only New York Jets cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner.
