Fort Bend Bush Key Players and Storylines
Colonius McNeal came in midway through the offseason last spring and still managed to lead Bush to its first playoff appearance in four years. Now with a full spring and summer under him and his coaching staff, the Broncos are galloping into 2026.
The offense is ready to produce some fireworks. Quarterback Jamir Young (971 passing yards, 751 rushing yards) is a “tremendous athlete” who is just as dangerous with his legs as his arm. He’s got a pair of physical running backs behind him in senior Brandon Smith (732 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns) and junior Jamarion Jones (547 rushing yards and eight touchdowns). They should have plenty of holes to run through with four starters returning on the offensive line, including tackles Isaiah Neal-Woodard and Amare Ndukwe, along with guard Emmanuel Agulue. All three were second team all-district selections last season.

Defensively, the Broncos have their work cut out for them with just two starters returning. Two-time all-district defensive back Robert Bankhead (21 tackles, three INTs) will be the star of the show. In the front seven, junior Shane Wilson (33 tackles) is ready to make a jump after moving to linebacker just last year, while 5’11”, 265-pound sophomore defensive tackle Julian McCarty will do the dirty work as a “space-eater” in the trenches.
All five of Bush’s losses last year came by 14 points or more, so the Broncos are eager to show off the strides they’ve made over the offseason. If they can eliminate mistakes and stay consistent, this group should have a real shot at earning back-to-back playoff berths for the first time since 2016-17.
