Fort Bend Clements Rangers

Head Coach: Robert Darnell (11th season; 27-74 record)

Last Season: 2-8; 1-6 in district

Returning Lettermen: 29 (8 returning starters on offense; 9 on defense)

Clements Key Players and Storylines

Clements has taken its lumps the past two years, winning just three of 20 games. This year, they hope all that pain will now lead to some gain in the win column.

17 starters return from last year’s team, including a pair of three-year starters in the backfield. George Jreissaty (1,224 rushing yards, 275 receiving yards, and 13 touchdowns) is the district’s reigning All-Purpose Player of the Year, while quarterback Trey Rivera (823 passing yards and seven touchdowns) is the coach on the field that every team hopes to have.

In the passing game, he’s got a weapon in 6’4”, 220-pound tight end Kellen Kinter, who can unlock the offense as the first “true tight end” Clements has had in over a decade. On the offensive line, 6’6”, 290-pound tackle Brandon Evans is “poised for a huge senior season.”

Do-it-all safety Bo Cimino (101 tackles, five INTs) headlines the defense. The Rangers also expect to be mean in the trenches with 6’4”, 240-pound defensive end Jean Pierre Jeffrey-Iwelu (50 tackles, seven TFLs) and defensive tackle Marley Nickerson. The linebacking corps doesn’t have a ton of experience, but senior Jacob Nguyen (41 tackles, five TFLs) is a solid run stopper, while outside linebacker Amir Colbert-Holmes has the potential to dominate this fall.

There’s no question this Clements team will be stronger this year with so much returning talent. However, jumping into the playoffs is no easy task. Last year, the Rangers lost to the top four in this district by a combined 200 points. Darnell has told his team that in order to be elite, they’ll have to take down one of those elites this year as they look to contend for their first playoff berth since 2022.
