Fort Bend Elkins Knights 2026 Season Preview
Fort Bend Elkins Knights
Head Coach: Trae Grimes (4th season; 14-18 record)
Last Season: 5-5; 3-4 in district
Returning Lettermen: 26 (5 returning starters on offense; 9 on defense)
Elkins Key Players and Storylines
A 28-24 loss to Fort Bend Bush ultimately kept Elkins out of the playoffs by a single spot last season.
The Knights will expect to be on the right side of that dividing line this year with 14 returning starters. Head coach Trae Grimes believes his team will “have the ability to be explosive on both sides of the ball.”
Offensively, it will all start with the backfield. Quarterback RJ Evans (692 passing yards and six touchdowns) is a dynamic dual threat, while running back Tyson Craft is hard to bring down in the open field. Receiver Kayden Knighten may be just 5’11”, but he has a tremendous ability to high point the football.
The biggest question mark will lie on the offensive line where the Knights graduated three of their five starters from a year ago.
Defensively, almost the entire lineup is back with nine returning starters. Expect linebackers Omosefe Ayemere, a Louisiana commit, and Mikael Jones to dominate the middle of the field. On the back end, safety Austin Johnson (63 tackles) has the speed and instincts to make plays on the ball. Up front, defensive tackle Blaise Tii will be Elkins’ anchor in the trenches.

2026 is a year that Elkins has been looking forward to. With so much experience across the roster, Grimes expects this team to not only make the playoffs but push for playoff wins.
